After School Program

Kids’ Corner offers an exceptional, quality After School Program during the school year for grades K-6 with experienced and engaged teachers & staff.

Dates & Times: We are open Monday through Friday from school dismissal (including early release days) until 6:00pm.

Full Day Programs: We also offer full day programming from 8:00am-6:00pm on non-school days that include field trips and special performances during February Vacation, April Vacation, Professional Development Days & more!

Transportation: Children are bussed to Kids' Corner by Winchester Public Schools buses from all five Winchester elementary schools and McCall Middle School (with valid bus pass from Winchester Public Schools). Parent/Caregiver is responsible for picking child up.

Classrooms & ratios: Our students are divided into three classrooms: Kindergarten and 1st graders, 2nd and 3rd graders, & 4th, 5th and 6th graders. We have a 8:1 to 11:1 ratio depending upon grade level.

Teachers: Each classroom has lead teachers who are full time and several part-time teachers, as well as occasional high school student aides. The staff consists of experienced and well qualified teachers who have diverse backgrounds in the arts, athletics, education, history, music, and theatre. The genuine commitment and dedication of our staff is reflected in the low staff turn over. Our current staff has an average of 10 years of experience.

Lunch & Snacks: Daily afternoon snacks are provided by the program. During early release days and full day programs, a lunch program is offered or students can bring lunch packed from home.

Schedule: Our weekly schedule introduces students to a variety of activities that target physical, cognitive, creative, and social and emotional development. During the week, children sign up for teacher-led, small group projects within their classrooms. Projects range from art, drama, baking, sports, games & more! Once a week, each room also has a designated Big Group Game (BGG), during which the entire room comes together to play a sport/game that emphasizes teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Integrated Curriculum: At Kids’ Corner, learning is organized around monthly themes. We’ve had themes such as Outer Space, Community, Nature, Food & Art . Learning activities are developed that tie back to these themes and concepts in engaging and creative ways. Our teachers thoughtfully connect STEAM concepts to our integrated curriculum through projects, class meetings, Big Group Science and Big Group Art.

Mini Courses: Starting in January, students in Grades 2-6 will take part in Mini Courses. In Mini Courses, students have the opportunity to explore a variety of topics in depth and in a small group setting. Topics often include visual arts, music, theater, sports, cooking, science, engineering, coding, and technology. Students meet once a week over the span of a couple of months. Students in Grades K-1 partake in Micro Courses, which are similar, but offered over a span of a week.

Monthly Curriculum Event, Special Performances & Field Trips: In addition to our awesome integrated curriculum, we have a lot of wonderful monthly events and activities. Special monthly activities include field trips, in-house presentations, music-and film making, cooking, community service projects, and program-wide theme days.

Registration:Children are accepted into Kids' Corner After School Program on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to children currently enrolled in the program, and siblings of children already enrolled in the program. There is no restriction on how early you can register your child. The process for enrollment is:

  1. Submit online registration and non-refundable $150.00 registration fee. The fee should be paid via PayPal when prompted on the final registration screen. Payment can also be made via check payable to Kids’ Corner, and mailed to P.O. Box 773, Winchester, MA 01890.

  2. If a space is available, an acceptance letter will be mailed to you, indicating the days/times your child will attend. (For the Kindergarten year, acceptance letters are mailed out around October the year before their enrollment would begin.)

  3. An enrollment packet will be mailed to you within 6 months of your child’s enrollment date. This packet contains all forms (medical, emergency contacts, transportation, etc.) that must be completed prior to the first day of enrollment.

  4. Complete and return the enrollment packet, including signed contract and deposit of one month's tuition, within the deadline specified

Join the wait list! If no space is currently available, applicants are notified directly via the registration system. Placement on the wait list can be secured by submitting the $150 registration fee. Children are logged onto the wait list according to the date that they were entered into the registration system by their parent/caregiver. We have rolling enrollment, so when a spot opens up, we go to the wait list to fill the spot, with priority given to siblings of currently enrolled students, followed by alumni.

To ensure a stable environment, allow for continuity and progression in program activities, and help each child develop in the program context, children must attend Kids' Corner a minimum of 2 days a week.
