outdoor gamesAfter School Program

During the school year, Kids' Corner runs an enrichment-based after school program that is the core of our out-of-school programming. Kids' Corner's values-driven culture, and its long-term focus on program enhancement, have made this the most sought-after school-age program in Winchester.

Schedule & Operation

  • Monday through Friday from school dismissal (including early release days) until 6:00pm
  • Bus transportation to Kids' Corner from all five Winchester elementary schools and McCall Middle School*
  • Students are divided into four groups by grade:
  • Kindergarten and 1st graders
  • 2nd and 3rd graders
  • 4th and 5th graders
  • 6th graders
  • Daily afternoon snack provided.

*Families must register through Winchester Public Schools for a bus pass for each student.

Program Options

Kindergarteners and 1st graders must be enrolled for a minimum of 5 days a week. Second through Fourth graders must be enrolled a minimum of 3 days a week. Fifth and Sixth graders must be enrolled a minimum of 2 days a week.

Weekly Schedule

The regular weekly schedule introduces students to a variety of activities, and targets physical, cognitive, creative, and social and emotional development. During the week, children sign up for teacher-led projects within their classrooms. Projects are designed to cater to the children's interests, and range from art and drama to sports and games. Once a week, each room also has a designated Big Group Game (BGG), during which the entire room comes together to play, either in the gym or in an outdoor setting. BGG is used to emphasize teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Integrated Curriculum

Breaking down barriers between subjects makes learning more meaningful to students. Learning is organized around themes with which students can identify, such as “Community,” “Mythology and Legends,” or “Growth.” Learning activities are developed that tie back to these themes and concepts in engaging and creative ways. Beginning in September 2017, our teachers are connecting STEAM concepts to our integrated curriculum in projects, class meetings, Big Group Science and Big Group Art*.

*All students engage in Big Group activities, which bring together all teachers and children in the classroom.

Monthly Curriculum Events

Special monthly activities include field trips, in-house presentations, and other onsite events that relate to the month’s curriculum themes.

Special Activities

To keep children engaged and excited, special activities and events break up the daily routine. These include: field trips, performers, music- and film-making, cooking, community service projects, and program-wide theme days.
